Small leaks can look minor at first but over a period of time can do a lot of damage. From swelling of wood to finding the lowest point and coming through a light fixing downstairs. If you notice any damp areas in the house keep an eye on it and if your sure it’s a leak isolate the water and get a plumber out, otherwise something that would cost you Near a hundred pounds to fix could cost you thousands.
This clanking sound or banging sound whenever you shut off your taps or have a washing machine siphoning water is usually caused by a worn washer in the house, even unclipped pipework. Most cases of water hammer are caused by worn washers or glands in taps/toilet filling valves.
In some cases where you hear the pipes rattle is because pipework is unclipped and shuddering when the pressure is suddenly shut off.
This is a very common question I get asked just after having the problem explained to me over the phone. To be honest without pictures or having a decent look at the job it’s just guessing… Which could go one of two ways, bad for me or bad for you, so traditionally I like to have a look at the job and give you a fair fixed price to complete the job with the best certified materials and unrivaled workmanship.
This is a very popular issue, quite frankly if it’s something that has got worse over time, It’s just hair clogging up the pipework. The best action you can do is get a hair catch and minimalize the amount of hair getting into the drains. I’m not going to tell you to try and give it a plunge yourself, because I have attended quite a lot of jobs over the last few years of people blowing off their traps with plungers nowadays after investigating the state of the trap, it boils down to chemical use, such as acid to try and clear the drains. Professional opinion: Get a Drainage Engineer to inspect your pipework and give you the okay to self-clear blockages moving forward to avoid any dramatic flooding. Depending on what’s found pipework may need to be changed to enable you to be in that situation.
The best advice I can give for avoiding blockages in kitchen sinks is wiping oily dishes down with a kitchen paper towel and use plenty of hot water when washing plates manually. Yes I mean crank up the hot water temperature, get those marigolds on and wash up using plenty of hot water to keep the oils from sticking to your drainage and reducing the flow of water. these problems can be even more so problematic when sharing a communal stack with multiple apartments creating much more chance for blockages internally or externally.
